Sharing Promo Codes and the Customer Checkout Experience
Once a Promo Code is active and configured, you can share the code directly with customers or provide a booking link that carries the code into the customer booking journey.
This article explains how customers apply and remove Promo Codes at checkout, how discounts behave when multiple items are in the basket, and how to test a promotion before sharing it.
Sharing the Code Manually
You can give customers the Promo Code to enter manually during checkout. Make sure you share the code exactly as it appears in Pitchbooking.
At checkout, the customer can:
Enter the code in the Promo Code field.
Click Apply.
Review the updated basket total.
Complete their booking.
If the Promo Code is not eligible for the booking, the customer will see an error explaining that the code could not be applied.
Sharing a Booking Link with the Code
You can also create a booking link that carries the Promo Code into the customer booking journey.
To create the link:
Go to Finance > Promo Codes.
Open the Promo Code you want to share.
Click Partner page with coupon.
A new browser tab will open. Copy the page address from your browser.
Share the copied link with your customers.
When a customer follows the link, the Promo Code is carried into the booking journey and will automatically attempt to apply when they reach checkout.
Note: Using a booking link does not override the Promo Code rules. The customer's booking must still meet all configured conditions, including any facility, date, product, customer and usage restrictions.
Removing a Promo Code at Checkout
If a customer no longer wants to use a Promo Code, they can remove it from their basket before completing the booking.
Once the Promo Code is removed, the basket total will be recalculated using the normal eligible prices.
Baskets Containing More Than One Item
How the discount is applied to a basket containing multiple items depends on the Promo Code's Discount Scope.
One booking in the basket: The discount is applied to one eligible booking item.
All eligible items in the basket: The configured discount is applied across all eligible items that meet the Promo Code rules.
Items that do not meet the configured facility, product, event, date or other restrictions will remain at their normal price.
When the Discount Reduces the Total to Zero
A Promo Code may reduce the customer's checkout total to zero.
When there is no remaining balance to pay, a Stripe card payment is not required. The customer will instead be shown the free/offline confirmation route.
The customer can click Agree and Book to complete their booking.
Testing Before Sharing a Promotion
Before sharing a Promo Code with customers, test the promotion to make sure the discount and eligibility rules work as expected.
To test a Promo Code:
Keep the Promo Code set to Pending while you configure its settings.
Check the Discount Type, Discount Value and Discount Scope.
Check the Promo Code validity period and eligible booking dates and times.
Confirm that the correct facilities, events, products and customers are selected.
Change the Promo Code status to Active.
Complete a test booking using the same booking journey your customers will follow.
Confirm that the expected discount is applied to the correct items before completing the test.
Tip: Testing is particularly important for packages, event bookings, baskets containing add-ons and percentage discounts with a maximum value. Where possible, test the same combination of items and booking dates that your customers are expected to use.
